Uninstalling ATI drivers

Is there a way to uninstall the ATI proprietary drivers? After installing them it seems I'm having problems with X. I'm running kernel 2.6.15.1 (custom).

When I exit out of X I can't startx again until I reboot. It goes into a blank screen with only a cursor showing. I need to ctrl-alt-del to get out of it. (It doesn't matter what DE I use either).

there are known problems with ati proprietary driver. do you compile your kernel with framebuffer enabled? if you do, then please disable it and see if it helps.

I hope you keep the original kernel

It starts but the screen went blank? My laptop with x300 is running without framebuffer and is working just fime. i need to disable it due to some issue with getting my suspend to disk to work.

It doesn't start at all. During the boot process the screen stays blank. I do keep copies of previous kernel builds. Apparently there's a script under /usr/share/fglrx/ called fglrx-uninstall.sh that uninstalls the drivers. Thanks a lot for your help.
