Trying to dual boot, Windows isn't working.

OK, so i have Windows working fine, another partition made for MandrakeLinux. I install Mandrake and it goes around fine. After playing around a while with it not working, I DID get it to work. But now I can't get to Windows. Instead, when I select "windows" in Mandrake's selection menu, I get a nearly blank DOS screen with a few ASCILL symbols scattered about with a green backround behing each of the letters. Do I need to create a boot disk, or do I need to do something else?

It depends a lot of what windows and what boot loader you are using...

You need to start windows and reconstruct your MBR. I do no remember how exactly this is done, but with Windows 95, 98, Me you need to run use a bootable Windows disk and then run "fdisk /mbr". With windows XP you can use the installation CD and ask it to repair the system instead of installing a fresh copy. Then there is a command like "fixmbr" (run "help") to have a full list of the commands.

After doing this you will be a ble to enter windows but not Linux, so you have to use a bootable Linux disk and run lilo or grub...

Good luck...

OK, thanks. I was just making sure. By the way, I am using Windows XP and MandrakeLinux.

EDIT: I used mbr and it worked, but now nothing happens when I start up. What do I do now?
