Trouble transferring files from a Windows box to a UNIX box.

My Nagios server just took a nosedive and I am in the process of building a new box. I have the base install complete with one step to go. I am having trouble getting my server to recognize the txt files I burned to a CD that contain the backup configs for Nagios. I used the program EOL converter to convert the Windows text into Linux text. I burned the files on the CD and when I inserted it into the Linux box it said the the files system was incorrect. Would it be easier to setup a FTP server and how what would be the easiest setup for my situation? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Ubuntu 64 bit Server Edition- running Nagios 2.6
Windows XP SP3

Thanks,

Windows H@ter

How did you burn a filesystem onto the CD that your same system doesn't support? You need to find out what file system that CD used and get support for that on your Linux box.

It would probably be easiest to use/setup an SSH client/server on the machines if you want to go that route. I'm sure your Ubuntu Server already has sshd running and can listen for ssh client requests that could be made from the Windows machine. You can go ahead now and transfer your files that way. I wouldn't *bother* setting up ftp unless you intend to use it for other things later.

It is text file that was compiled from the dying server. I used a program to convert the file from Windows text (CRLF) to Linux text (LF). After the file was converted, I burned it to a CD using my Windows machine. Are you saying that this method will not work???

Thanks

Just use winscp and copy the files from your windows box to the Linux box.
http://winscp.net/
Winscp connects to the Linux box via ssh and uses scp to copy the files over. nothing special needed on the Linux box other than an account to log in with, and sshd running which it usually is by default.

If you use a decent text editor on windows it will save the files in the UNIX text format to begin with, so there will be no need to convert them.

WinSCP did the trick. Thanks for your help.
