trouble shooting lab for hardware


I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to emulate hardware problems in a either a vm lab or as a standalone application.

emulate hardware issues in a network for certification purposes.
Secondary Goal:
if possible have list of "plugins" to generate defind issues.
A whish
I would love to locate some free flash cards for net+, sec+, A+
Thanks guys for any points in the correct direction. Google searches just keeps getting me sites that are try to sell classes.
