^ seems like its running. not sure what anon-proxy is but it is probably some server daemon that is supposed to run in the background and only operate when someone connects to your web server.

what are you expecting it to output ?

Based on http://linuxpoison.blogspot.co.uk/20...mously-on.html it sounds like the configuration file is /etc/default/anon-proxy : though you may have a file called something like ~/.anon-proxy too.

Have you edited either of these files? It sounds like that's what's causing the problem now.

Okay, I can't remember exactly how the Ubuntu packaging system works, but hopefully if you try uninstalling and re-installing anon-proxy then it will overwrite the broken config files.

Hope this helps,

I've uninstalled, and re-installed many times, but it still will not run. Am thinking of upgrading to ubuntu 12.04 from 11.10, maybe that will help........thanks, Rich....

As I said, it might fix it, it might not. According to the package I downloaded from the Ubuntu website, /etc/default/anon-proxy should contain:

Quote:
# /etc/default/anon-proxy

# the local port to listen on
# remember to set $HTTP_PROXY and $http_proxy accordingly
PORT="4001"

# list of cascades and/or mixes, seperated by semicolons
# see http://anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/status.php for a list
# 80.237.206.62:443; 80.237.206.62:6544; mix.inf.tu-dresden.de:6544;
# mix.inf.tu-dresden.de:443; mix.inf.tu-dresden.de:80;
# mix.inf.tu-dresden.de:22; 212.112.232.175:36544; 212.112.232.175:80;
# 212.112.232.175:443; 80.237.152.53:6544; 80.237.152.53: 443;
# 80.237.152.53:80; 217.10.13.163:6544; 141.76.1.123:16544;
# 141.76.1.123:80; 141.76.1.123:443;
CASCADE="mix.inf.tu-dresden.de:443"

# command-line options passed to proxytest
OPTIONS="-a -d -j -r /var/run/anon-proxy/mix.pid -n $CASCADE -p $PORT"
Try changing your /etc/default/anon-proxy to contain that, and delete any files named .anon_proxy (or similar) in your home directory.

Hope this helps,
