Suse 8.0 error when installing netscape 7

I went to www.netscape.com and downloaded the netscape 7.1 browser.
When I try and install it on my account while logged in as SU I get an error.

linux:/home/dougen/Desktop # cd netscape-installer
linux:/home/dougen/Desktop/netscape-installer # ./netscape-installer
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
linux:/home/dougen/Desktop/netscape-installer # ./netscape-installer
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

Does anyone have any ide
a what this is and how to fix it so I can install it?

Weird thing is, I log in as root and went to www.netscape.com and downloaded 7.1 to my desktop and installed it with no problem at all.

So That leads me to believe it has something to do with opening a shell - Konsol and typing in su and then my root password and trying to install it with that. again I can and do have it installed as root

HMMmmmmmmm, If I do have it installed under root... how do I share that program or link it to my useraccount? I don't even know if that's wise or not.

Thanks for all your help.

so you've already installed it as root? then it's installed, no need to install it as a user. SuSE puts it in the /opt directory which may or may not already be in your path. try ./netscape at a user term. if it starts, then all is well, if not you will have to modify your path to include /opt/netscape.

in a user term type:
PATH=$PATH:/opt/netscape
export PATH

it needs to be installed as root because it needs write access to directories that the normal user can't write to. once installed it runs as a normal user process, creating a 'dot' file in the users home dir to store config settings, the cache, etc.

ok, I opened a user term "little black screen at the bottom with the shell on it and typed or actually pasted

PATH=$PATH:/opt/netscape and hit enter and then typed

export PATH

nothing, na da... I went to my netscape-installer and it said I didn't have premissions to write there.....

So I selected a different folder. My local home folder... and it went in there.

I do have a hunch tho that's NOT where it should go tho.
