I am migrating SugarCRM from windows server to a linux server. But the main problem is the database. How will I import the data from MSSQL of windows to MYSQL of Linux ?
You might want to read this and do some additional background research. I think the main problem (I'm not an mssql user though) is that the data types in mssql may not be directly translatable to mysql. I suspect SugarCRM uses the same database structure in both, but it is definitely worth making sure the data types in each case is compatible.
The data is in mdf format and I want to import it into mysql,Is this possible ?
I'm not familiar with mdf format, but from what I gather, it is a text file containing SQL commands. If so, this could work. Open it in a text file and see if it is SQL.
However, this isn't the format I was referring to. If you read the article I linked to you'll find this:
Quote:
While SQL Server and MySQL have a fair amount of overlap as far as data types go, there are still some differences to be accounted for. Make sure to spend some time looking at the various data types you use in your tables and plan to migrate those tables to the MySQL data types that best match. Be careful when planning this: you want to match data types by capacity and not necessarily by name.
You're going to have to go through the database and see if there are any incompatibilities between the data type used by MSSQL and the data types used by MySQL. You'll also have to understand the format of the data. For example, if the data in MSSQL is stored as MM-DD-YYYY but in MySQL is stored as YYYY-MM-DD, you could get some SERIOUS data corruption, even if both fields are the same data type.
If you haven't already, I'd also ask for help in the SugarCRM forums. Someone there may have hands-on experience in making the transition you're considering.
No the mdf file doesnot open in text file, it has to convert into .sql format so that it can be opened in a text file and then it can be easily imported and thanks for refering me to ask on SugarCRM forum and I am going there now.
