Hi again!
When Im logged in as root and trying to start /usr/bin/mysqld_safe
it says:
root@server:/usr/bin# mysqld_safe
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql
STOPPING server from pid file /var/lib/mysql/server.pid
041120 06:45:58 mysqld ended
When I tried it as another user I didnt have the permissions to start mysqld. I havent been able to create a root password either. But I havent been able to start mysqld so its been pretty hard to do that.
Thankful for whatever help you could give me. =)
Change the permission on the database to read/write for the group that mysql runs under. Also change the owner and group to the user/ group that mysql run under. That should fix it. Soory if this is a little confusing, it is really late.
I looked in the /var/lib/mysql/server.err seemes to be an error.log or something. dunno. however. it says: Fatal error: Can't open privilege tables: Table 'mysql.host' doesn't exist. Should I just create one?
You may have already solved this as it is getting a bit stale. But in case you are still after it the following reference may help. I had the problem and this solved it.
From Sams Teach Yourself MySQL in 21 Days, pg 27. It's possible you have corrupted databases. Delete /usr/local/mysql/var/mysql and run mysql_install_db again. I had this problem and running this procedure cleared it up as clean as a whistle.
The following log message from this file: /usr/local/mysql/var/FirstbaseLinux1.err was the second half of the error message about about the PID file closing the daemon.
041206 20:45:19 mysqld started
041206 20:45:19 InnoDB: Started
041206 20:45:19 Fatal error: Can't open privilege tables: Can't find file: './mysql/host.frm' (errno: 13)
041206 20:45:19 Aborting
