Hi
I am finding problem to start mysqld.

The error showing when mysql binary installed in RH Enteprise Linux 3.0 in Dell 2600 server was


[mysql@karthika mysql]$ /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld

the installed file was
mysql-standard-4.0.21-pc-linux-i686.tar.gz


Hope someone here can help me fix it!

If you installed from source, there is a set-up script you need to run to set up the basic permissions tables. Check out the procedure in here in the mySQL manual and make sure you've finished the installation and set-up.
