press "Alt + Enter" when you have launched the game.
Try it
If it gets full screen , then to return again press "Alt + Enter" to return into windowed mode.

I guess you play starcraft under Wine.
So try to run winecfg, select graphic tab and uncheck "Emulate a vitual desktop" option. Apply and try starcraft again.

I don't know if this will help, but after using compiz, I noticed that "Alien Arena" won't run full screen, and that is a native linux game.
