Sniffer for "custom protocols"

Hello. I didn't know whether to put this in the network section or in this section, but here goes. I am looking for a sniffer that allows you to define custom protocols, so when I monitor the network, the packets will show up nicely, with all their fields ordered and so on..

Does anyone know about such a sniffer? I don't care if it works on linux or on windows, although it would be nice if it would have a gui.. Thank you.

Wireshark (formerly ethereal) doesn't allow you to define custom protocols, but it does support a lot of them out of the box and it does have a gui. You can get it from http://www.wireshark.org/ - maybe you can also develop protocol handlers and submit them for inclusion in future releases (http://www.wireshark.org/faq.html#q1.10).

If I don't find anything, I'll just have to print the info I'm interested in..

Found what I need:

Sounds kind of tricky, but I'll give it a shot.
