I am an extreme linux newbie, I am running on Linux Red Hat..... but anyways whenever linux loads I see that SmartD fails. I have no idea what that is and how I could fix it.

smartd is the daemon (program that run in the background) to monitor the health of your hard drives. If your drives have built-in support for SMART, smartd can keep an eye on them and warn you about events related to the drive's health status.

Try 'man smartctl' in a console or go to http://csl.cse.ucsc.edu/smart.shtml for more info.
