Slack 10.2


Can me help somebody? My server eats a lot of memory ~500Mb of 1024Mb There is no "X" or any "KDE" installed.. Only samba is started on it.
It shows that smbd is started several times, that is normal?

the more than one smbd is fine.

and are you looking at allocated memory or actually used memory. They are different. It is common for *nix systems to allocate a mojority of your memory, but that doesnt mean its using it.


top

try top to see if something is running away on you

I have tried it before, it writes:
Mem: 904448k total, 589700k used, 314748k free, 14264k buffers
