My son would like to know why he can't install and use Shockwave flash on this computer which is running Ubuntu 10.10? I didn't have an explanation why it won't work in Linux yet.....Can someone shed light on this for me please? I think he just wants to play a few simple games on the miniclip website that require shockwave....He now says he wants windows back and I want to avert thoughts of going back to those dreadful days...
Is there a way to install it using wine? I don't have a need for wine but I'm sure I could figure it out if its been done before...
Flash can be installed and has been running on Linux for many years. He should be able to find it in his package manager - have him search for "adobe flash" or just "flash" as it hasn't been a Shockwave product for a while now. Alternatively, go to www.adobe.com and get the install files from there.
Shockwave itself has never been available for Linux even though there have been calls for it for quite some time. It's a decision made byt he company and isn't something that we can work around as far as I know.
Well, Flash is already installed by the restricted extras packages I installed upon initial OS install, but my son is wanting the shockwave version or something.....I dunno I don't do games. He is able to watch youtube vids etc but for some reason there are certain games that require shockwave to play.....Is this version of Flash available to emulate?
Why isn't this available for Linux yet?? Linux is running on fancy phones and tablets etc, but yet there isn't a simple shockwave player available for the masses?

Note, as was said, that the Shockwave Player is not a version of the Flash Player, and that Adobe has not released a Linux version of their propitiatory Shockwave player. Nor is there a version available at http://labs.adobe.com/ that I could see.
