Flash/Shockwave sluggish

I was wondering if the linux implementation of flash/shockwave is simply inadequate. I know it's not my machine as when I was running windoze, the same shockwave movies I am playing now (slowly) played fine. I have tried two different browsers (though both Mozilla based) and the results are the same. I simply installed the plugin from Macromedia's page, perhaps I did something wrong? I am a newb after all...

Any ideas? Thanks..

no new information here

I've noticed the same thing as well.

And I've noticed that java applets run much slower in Linux than in Windows. Why? I don't know. Perhaps the applets are optimized for Windows...but wasn't java supposed to be system independent?

As far as flash goes, I know that the OS you are running definitely makes a difference. In my differential equations class, our book came with some macromedia software. It ran beautifully in Windows. It ran horribly on Mac OS...but it ran beautifully in Virtual PC...go figure!
