Sendmail error (when used by KMail)

I've got KMail configured to send mail via sendmail. So when i try to send message it gives me the following error:
"Sending failed:
Sendmail exited abnormally.
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either
fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the
message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:
Sendmail"
I'm sure that address isn't broken, cause when i'm using POP3 mail server every thing is OK.
My distro is Mandrake 10.1 (official), KMail 1.7.1 (using KDE 3.2.3) and sendmail-8.13.1-2mdk.
Any suggestions..

kmail: not sending

Hello Mistreated?

Do this first, get on line, load Kmail go to Settings>configure Kmail>network>sending>modify>security>click on "check to see what server supports"

You likely to be asked "do you accept the security certificate for this session or for ever. Click for ever.

If not move the security botton to see which one works, usually the "none" botton is where is at.

Post to see how you getting on.

Hello amoo!
Hmm... Sendmail outgoing account does not contains the security tab. But i did all that you said with my POP3 mail server. Strange but KMail determined, that it (mail server) supports SSL encryption. I tried to send message and got the common error like with Sendmail: "Could not connect to host ... fix problem... etc". Sendmail wasn't working too, like before.
So i've set encryption to "None", to get KMail server back to work, like before.
Hope that's the result you have expected to get.

yes it does

Hello Mistreated:

Yes it does: have a closer look at the menu I sent you.
sending
modify
On the transport smtp there are two buttons:
general
security

I have had this problem every time I installed Linux in my machines the message comes up and what I sent you worked form me every
time.

Hello amoo!
Yeah, you're right. When you're modifying SMTP server account (sorry, i've mistaken in previous post, when called it POP3 ), there's two tabs: "general" and "security", but when modifying Sendmail account there's only two fields: "Name" with value Sendmail and "Location" with value /usr/sbin/sendmail.

So like i said in previous post when i'm checking the supported security with SMTP server it sets me SSL encryption, but with this settings i receive "Could not connect to host.." error message.
But i've discovered a new bug, when i send messages to username@inbox.lv, no one gets them, with Sendmail i didn't have that problem, that's why i'm trying to get it back to work.

security issue

Hi mistreated:

First you must be on line doing this:

When you click the "security" tab you are presented with a menu down the bottom click the tab "check what the server supports" you should be presented with a pop up window that says "do you accept this security certificate: There would be two tabs: "for this session only" "forever" click on "forever".

If any of this fail: try all three tabs one by one. "none" "ssl" and so on. and try sending mail. If that fail:

There is mistake in configuration of "send mail" not the security issue. carefully read kmail manual take your time and try again.

Strange, i don't receive that window with "forever"/"for this session only", when clicking "check what the server supports" button. My SMTP server normally works only with "None" selected, but i can't get my KMail working via Sendmail program, not with SMTP. I think i should try to update KMail and/or configure Sendmail.
Thanks amoo!

When you're adding new outgoing account (Settings>configure Kmail>network>sending>add), you can choose either SMTP or Sendmail for mail transfer. KMail was working fine with Sendmail, until reinstalled it. And now i want to make it work again, cause i do not like my provider's SMTP server.

sendmail

Hi mistreated:

Your provider may not support "sendmail" I would configure smtp first and get all bugs out and make sure it sends mail. Then try and change to "sendmail" if it does not send then your provider does not support "sendmail". Looks like you have a configuration between you and your provider.

By the way, i dislike my Internet provider. But Sendmail was functioning properly, until i reinstalled it. Actually i fed up with KMail configuration, maybe you know any alternative mail client. I want to try something else to be sure it's not KMail's fault.
