sdlmame slow compared to xmame


Trying to run a game such as NBA Hangtime with sdlmame is much slower than if I run it with xmame. I'm using a NVIDIA 7600GS. Does anyone know how I can get sdlmame to have speed as good as xmame?

It seems that SDL in general isn't making use of direct rendering.

Thanks in advance for any help.

First run the command glxinfo in an xterm window. Near the top look for "Direct rendering: " It will indicate yes or no. If it's no and you know the appropriate nvidia driver is installed make sure your user is a member of the video group.

Direct rendering is working just fine on my machine. I think I was wrong about my comments on the slowness of SDL and sdlmame in general. After doing some reading around online I found a couple comments mentioning that the newest version of sdlmame is slow for many Midway games (eg. NBA Hangtime). It would certainly appear so to me!

If anyone can deny or back this up please do so.

regarding the slow sdlmame

Yes! sdlmame is slower than xmame. and sdlmame can run diehard.zip rom, but xmame does not run diehard.zip (it did not work with me).
