Hi all, just out of curiousity. Has anybody had problems with Samba being really slow at accessing files?

Here is my problem, I'm using Fedora4 as a router, and File Server (Iptables for firewall on external NIC). I can see my shares (directories) no problem, but if I want to open up a file or delete a file it takes for ever (2-3 min) to complete the command. I'm accessing the files from a XP (pro) machine from my local network.

I've checked the "permissions" (good), even shut down my XP firewall, same out come.

Any Ideas ?

yes i have seen this before. But it was due to my security level. that is i was running domain level security but hadn't added my unix box to the windows domain.

it sounds like there is something timing out in the authentication process. Maybe post your smb.conf
