Question Samba: Can see share but not access? Permissions issue?

Using Fedora C4, I've got samba running and can access it from a windows machine. I can access the user directory but that's all. I can read and write to this share.

I've got a 2nd hard drive that I have mounted, I can see it on the windows machine but can't access it. In Windows XP I get the error: "SHARE is not accessbile. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contract the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path is not found."

In the samba configuration utitlity I have it set to be visible and read/write for the share.

I think the problem is a permissions issue. How should the permissions be set?

Or any ideas?

Thanks in Advance.

What are the permissions on the share directory?

They should (I think) give read and write access to "other". Also, see "man umask" to change the default permissions for the directory.

I hope this helps

I tried setting the permissions to 777 for the directory I'm trying to access and /mnt and that didn't work.

I read the umask manual but didn't seem to point me in the direction of solving the problem.

What user does samba access as? Could it be a group issue even if you have other set to r/w?
