Running Fruity Loops through Wine.

So I've just recently converted to Linux, and one of my main worries was whether I could get Fruity Loops running on a Linux OS. Well, I installed WinE, and it helped me install Fruity Loops, however when I try to run Fruity Loops I get and error from Fruity Loops and it freezes up. I then have to kill the process. I know WinE is still in Alpha testing, but if anyone has any tips on getting it running that would be much appreciated. I'm running Fedora Core 4, in case you need to know. Thanks in advance.

Wine is actually in beta now. Fruity Loops will always have issues cause Wine doesn't handle MIDI/Synthesis stuff well. I suggest you try a native alternative like Rosegarden. What is the error Wine is giving you?

Honestly I couldn't tell ya. The error is reported in Fruity Loops and it freezes up immediatly. From what I can see, there is a series of letters running vertically down the window, but I can't make anything of it because of that damn piece of Fruit from the loading screen, is covering it. I'll check out that RoseGarden thing though. Thanks for the advice.

Also are there any other Windows emulators that might possibly work for Fruity Loops? I'm not to big on changing to a different type of software, considering I have about 4 years experience with it, and everyone I collaborate uses FL.

There's Crossover and Cedega... but they are both basically enhanced versions of Wine. They're also both commercial products. And no, there's not much else: Along with these two derivatives, Wine is basically the best there is.

Crossover is a commercial product that is specifically designed to make it easier to run some of the most common Windows applications, such as MS Office, Internet Explorer, etc. Cedega, on the other hand, has enhanced Wine to make it run games better.

You could try them out, see if they help. Crossover in particular can run a lot of Windows apps that the plain version of Wine struggles with -- it runs Adobe Photoshop in our office, and a few other goodies besides, so it's worth a try. It is a commercial product, but you can download a 30 day demo.
I don't know Fruity Loops, so I can't tell you if it'll work with it (actually, I thought it was some kind of breakfast cereal... ). You might find compatibility info on the Crossover website, though.

Oh yes -- Crossover is at www.codeweavers.com and Cedega is at www.transgaming.com and www.transgaming.org

Hope that helps.

Fruity Loops

It is unlikely that you will get this to work in Linux
since it probably uses directsound which is a part of
directx.
Try Rosegarden (a midi/audio synth) or Hydrogen (a drum
synth). There are lots of other Linux audio packages if
you search for them.
