Remote login with SSH, but display on remote computer.

I am using Putty in Windows XP to login to my Ubuntu "Server". My server is located near my TV and I can use the TV as display. What I would like to do, is to login on my server with SSH and start VLC or a similar program to display video on the Servers local screen (TV). Is that possible?

Yes. Asumming that the video display is :0.0, you could login remotely and then run "display=':0.0" vlc <video-name>".

It may be better if you could set the video output in the vlc configuration file. It may be possible to control it remotely, but you'll need to read the VLC docs for that.

Hi.

Just do this:
Code:
DISPLAY=:0.0
export DISPLAY
and whatever you run will display on the remote X display.

Thanks, it works! I will probably have to work a little on the X settings. It is not perfect but it works .
