redhat 9 64 bit


dear friends,

i'm a newbie in linux. can redhat 9 be installed in a 64 bit system?

Possibly but RH 9 is not 64 bit so you'll be running in 32 bit mode.

RH 9 is really old. RedHat has branded its newer commerical offerings as RedHat EL (AS) and the newer non-commercial distros formerly called RedHat are now called Fedora. You should look into getting Fedora Core 4 (FC4) if you have a need to do 64 bit. Since its a new install there is no reason to use the older RedHat versions. At the least you should consider doing Fedora Core 3.

thanks for the info. i once tried installing fedora core 4. it's rather slow much slower than redhat 9. what do you think is the reason for this?
