RedHat 7.3 is just a bit too slow

I am running RedHat 7.3 on a 350Mhz (AMD K6 II) 64Mb and 20Gb HDD.

Whenever I decide to load anything it takes about a minute to load (the hard drive goes nuts). Because of this my brother made me install Window$ 98 again . How would I fix this?

I DISPISE WINDOWS!!!!! GET RID OF THE ...... THING!!!!

that's weird, i use 7.3 and it is pretty fast

then again, i have 1,024 mb ram in it, keep in mind that 64 is very low for any os (except for dos and 3.1 maybe and some bare verisons of linux) try to get that up to at least 256.

you should maybe look at what services are running on boot.
you could create a dual boot system and mount a read/write directory for windows in red hat also

Im a regular RH user myself. With a machine that old, you may want to try a different distro. Vector Linux is a good distro that works on older machines and I believe is based on RH so rpms work with it. ( Or maybe it is slackware based...cant remember).

Anyhow, try one of the minimalist distros.

How about CP/M? I had that running on 64K on my old 8088! It's my third favorite OS (after Linux and Mac-OS). Small, simple, fast.
