Red Hat Linux Software Upgrades

I am a begginer in using scripting languages have no experience in using Red Hat Linux. I am currently involved in setting up a parallel simulation network across several different operating systems for running a Ruby programmed design simulation. The simulation bein g carried is for a final year degree project.

Several of the computer terminals being used in the network are using Alpha 500Mhz chips and are running Red Hat version 5.0. To run the Ruby simulation we need to build Red Hat up to the most up to date Red Hat software which I believe is 9.0? Do you know how simple this is to achieve and if so how complex is it and where is the best place to start! Any info would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small.

Many regards,

Daryl Maffey

Welcome to LQ.

To be honest, with that big a version gap I'd just start from scratch again and mirror the final installation to each machine.
