Morning all,

This is probably a truly dumb newbie question.........I'm using Redhat 8.0 publisher's edition. When I connect with RHN, there are about 60mbof possible software updates - do I really need al of these (as everything is working fairly well on my system)? Are the errata more important? If so, ids there a site where I can catch up on downloading them?

Also, is there any way I can optimise my distro for running in graphical mode on a 233mhz Pentium 11 with 320mb memory? Gnome runs ok - but a bit slow. KDE is terminally slow.

Last question....when I install a tar.gz or rpm file, all goes well - but I can't find the icons! I have lost Sun Star Office!! Where does RedHat stick the programme icons?

well for me, i usually just install the stuff that takes care of security issues, newer versions of kde, libs, and that's about it.
as far as sun's star office, i'm not sure. but you could try trolling around the star office installation directories.

i'm not so sure how close the directory structures is between star office and openoffice, but in open office if you installed it in /usr/local/, the icons are in:

/usr/local/OpenOfficeXXXX/share/icons/

at least for me using OO1.1 Beta
