reboot freezes after yast update run, reboot for kernel update

Hello
I ran the yast updater. I updated the kernel through yast seperatly, in a second update session after it did the other security updates. It said I should reboot after installing the kernel update. The reboot froze after about 15s. and I waited, and waited...then I had to hard reboot. Got back in and installed the ATI driver from their site, after running the ati config it said to reboot.

Reboot hung again, and had to hard reboot.

Question: Where would the debug log for the reboot be and what might it be called so I can try to figure out what is happening? Or must I enable that feature? I won't have to reboot for a long time but i would like to understand this. I had no problems with the hanging reboots before i updated the security patches and kernel. Thank you. suse 10.1

Most logs are in /var/log. The ones most likely of interest to you are:
boot.msg - the most recent bootup
boot.omsg - the next most recent bootup
messages - a chronological collection of system messages
Xorg.0.log
XFree86.0.log
The latter two might contain some info on the graphics bootup process.

[edit] You might find some archived messages with names like messages-20061105.gz. These contain messages that predate the date-time stamp in the filename. These files may be useful, depending on how much time has passed since your problem occurred.

Thank you. I went through the file and haven't found the culprit yet, so i cleaned the files and pulled another boot (which hung) and will look at them now. Thanks agin.
