Realplayer slow computer performance
This is a little complex.
I am posting the request for a friend who is running Debian Sarge.
This is the problem: When she is listening to the BBC via the BBC radio player that opens up in a new window (using Firefox) but uses the realplayer codecs to play the programme the performance of the computer really slows. For example if the pointer is held over a link it takes 5-10 seconds for the pointer to register this fact and change to a 'hand'. This is also true for entering web addresses; keys are pressed and it takes the same amount of time for the letters to appear in the address bar.
This is not a problem when another programme is used such as openoffice. Also when the streaming audio is paused all works fine. If realplayer is used as a standalone programme to play music then firefox is ok but realplayer itself shows this poor performance.
System monitor shows cpu performance as normal (low) and memory usage as nothing out of the ordinary.
The same is true for the Mozilla browser and Epiphany.
Ideas appreciated.
Realplayer 10.0.6.776 (gold)
gcc 3.2.0
Kernel 2.6.8-2-386
Firefox 1.5.0.1
Thanks...
