QTParted Status is Busy is this normal


Device:/dev/hda
Status :Busy

Is this normal in Qtparted

This is on a Slax remaster with

ntfsprogs-1.11.2
qtparted-most up to date version

if it is mounted (ie, you are running from it) it is normal. To get around this, the simplest way is to use a live CD such as knoppix to partition the drive.

What do you mean by this also how can you check if its mounted and how would I unmount it

well, umm... if you are running linux from that partition of the harddrive, it is mounted. you umount it. (no typo- that's the command) but if you are using it, don't umount it unless you want problems..

So Slax doesn't work the same as Knoppix does

How can I check if its mounted. If the OS is started, it means it is mounted.

Try booting in single user mode(like windows safe but without almost nothing started and without GUI).

ahhh... ok- that's a clarification. just open up the commandline, type umount /dev/hda (umm... gurus confirm this?) and then you will be sure it is unmounted. Now go a head and partition.

Unmounted all partitions by right clicking and clicking unmount

hda1

hda3

Says Status:Available

that's your cd/dvd drive- you can't/don't need to format or partion this. (it's busy because you are running a live CD... )
