proftpd problem

Hello,

I am trying to install proftpd using the tutorial on this site. But I have got stuck when doing this

Code:
$ /orange/proftpd-1.2.10/proftpd -c /orange/proftpd-1.2.10/sample-configurations/basic.conf
I do this so that when proftpd runs it will call upon the basic.conf file. But when doing this the following appears.

Code:
-bash: /orange/proftpd-1.2.10/proftpd: No such file or directory
What am I doing wrong?

BTW: the tutorial is here proftpd tut

Thank you for your help

/orange is on a separate hard drive sdb1. It has all the proftpd files/folders plus a couple of ripped albums of mine.

folders are:
bin
etc
man
proftpd-1.2.10
sbin
var
music

Moved to Linux-Software, as requested.

It looks that you don't have an executable or it has no 'execute' permission set. What do you get when you run
ls -l /orange/proftpd-1.2.10|grep proftpd

Could I chmod/chown this executable so that is has the correct permissions?

How important is this step anyway?

What you get is not an executable. Could you please write how you installed it (I'm especially interested which kind of archive it wasinstalled from)?

okay I got this to work. I used

/orange/sbin/proftpd -c /orange/proftpd-1.2.10/sample-configurations/basic.conf#

For some reason my executable was in sbin, perhaps a change from 1.2.8 to 1.2.10??

I installed it from a tar.gz. I could have used an rpm or a cvs but it was the first one I found

Thanks for your help it is much appreciated

I just wasn't sure if you have installed from .tar.gz or from .src.rpm. In the second case you'd need to build it before using.
Nice to hear that it works.
