I am unable to successfully install any distro of Linux on my system. Can some one please help me - I am very new to using Linux.

I have installed eval distros before on my Dell D505 laptop so I know they do work. (Ubuntu, SUSE)

HOWEVER- Now I am having a problem with installing on my desktops.

There seems to be some compatibility issue occuring. And my guess is incompatibility with NVIDIA in some way.

Everything seems to be ok until it gets to the graphic interface place of the install and then all I get is a rainbow of waves for a display that is barely comprehensible.

Specifically I am trying to install Linspire on my desktop computer Here are my specs, can someone shed some light please and again I am rather a dummy when it comes to using Linux.

EVGA 680i LT SLI
E6600
2GB Corsair XMS2 667Mhz
EVGA 6800GS CO SE

Can't you just install it using text mode interface, and then install proper Nvidia drivers

Actually I installed VL5.8SOHORC3 and it has the nvidia drivers included. So far so good.
