Angry Problems building xfce

Hello, I hope somebody can help me with this.

I'm trying to build xfce following the instructions from xfce.org

Code:
If you have downloaded the tarballs, you need to unpack them before going on.

If you install into a different prefix from pkg-config, you have to set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH variable to include the path to the *.pc files installed by the Xfce libraries, which is ${prefix}/lib/pkgconfig. For example:

export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig

To build the modules from the tarballs just run:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local && make && make install
So I downloaded and unpacked all the tarballs, then I tried to run the commands to build the first package (exo-0.3).

Code:
$./configure && make && make install
and throws this message:

The required package gtk+-2.0 was not found on your system.
Please install gtk +-2.0 (at least version 2.6.0) or adjust the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed the package in a nonstandard prefix so that pkg-config is able to find it.

I modified my PKG_CONFIG_PATH and it is now like this:
/usr/lib/qt/lib/pkgconfig/:/usr/lib/pkgconfig/:/etc/gtk:/etc/gtk-2.0/:/usr/lib:/etc/gtk-2.0/i486-slackware-linux/

As you can notice reading the above, I'm using slackware (13.0 to know).

I just added every possible path to PKG_CONFIG_PATH to make it work but it didn't, what am I missing?, I know gtk 2.10 is installed to my system so it can't be that I'm missing gtk.

If I was you I would use slackware scripts to build xfce4. and if your are using a full install of Slackware then everything is in the source folder.
if you are compiling the newer version. then use the newer distro scripts and make sure you have the newer dependencies.
and it looks like you are using a older version to build a new version. the newer XFCE4 is written built on newer gtk versions. 2.60 is in Slackware current.

If you did a full install of Slackware, then you already have xfce. It's on the DVD, or CDs, somewhere, if you didn't install it.
