problem starting an Apache

Hi, ppl!
I compiled and installed apache server 2.2.11 and removed old one.
Now I'm trying to start it up
Code:
apachetcl start
... and it silently execute command.
with
ps -A (to see all running processes) I don't see that httpd is running

...well then I tryed to start it like this:
service httpd start
if says
Code:
Starting httpd: [OK]
...then I run ps -A again and again there are no httpd running.

looked in error_log and nothing?

How to know what happens? It's just silent this is the worst ever scenario when you don't have any feedback from system what happening.

Any ideas?

I think the command to start apache2 is "apache2 -k start", or "apache2 -k restart".
