I installed the build-package in UBUNTU 6.06 LTS but there still is a problem in installation of the media players.
Installing VLC via command line tells me it cannot find GLUB???
Installing XMMS it tells me i need libmad?please help me on this .I really need to watch movies/listen to music via UBUNTU.Am new to LINUX but this OS is just deadly.
Well, you should look for AUTOMATIX, it is a script that will install all those things without any fuss. It may be in Applications > Synaptic but if not, you'll have to google for it. Installing everything oneself is a bit more reliable but automatix is very useful when you find that too difficult.
Oh well, we recently had the whole discussion in another thread here on LQ. I think it's largely a matter of expert paranoia. I mean, extreme precaution is good in a sysadmin but that doesn't mean that their criteria apply to the average home user. As I said, manual install is probably more reliable but it's not as if automatix is going to eat up your system. Just don't install it if you need to run a server or if you're very concerned about security. And do a clean install of the next release instead of upgrading online.
