OpenOffice.org's Impress program will be able to open them. But you might have some problems moving files between MS-Office and OpenOffice.org programs.
I tried to use OO Impress to open powerpoint put was told there was an incorrect file format. I'm fairly certain that M$PP was a newer M$ product like XP. Maybe OO 1.1 is too old to open this version of M$PP?
