Postfix and DNS error ?
Hi all,
We have RH9 Mail Server w/Sendmail, an old piece of hardware with lots of problems.
This is about to be replaced with new/better hardware (Athlon 64-bit, SATA RAID 1)
I try to setup this new mail server on Fedora Core 6 (Zod) x86_64 w/Postfix (MTA) and
Dovecot (MDA).
My Postfix configuration is as follows:
...
myhostname = mail.pireasnet.gr
mydomain = pireasnet.gr
myorigin = $mydomain
inet_interfaces = all
mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, $mydomain
mynetworks_style = subnet
...
When I try to send mail between local users they don't get delivered.
Case A: When both mail servers, old and new, resides on the network the mails
sent to mail.pireasnet.gr (NEW) are automatically relayed to
collaboration.pireasnet.gr (OLD). The old one doesn't have the same accounts as the new one
so mails are lost. It seems that Postfix makes an MX lookup and relays the mail to the
server that DNS has recorded as 'default' mail server (existing MX record).
There is no 'relayhost' setting in /etc/postfix/main.cf
Case B:After editing /etc/postfix/access, and added some lines like
...
10.32.199 OK
192.168.1 OK
...
Note that there are no specific host ids but rather network ids, at least this
was my intention.
Done this because I thought that this will enforce the local users and will stop relaying.
Now I get: (/var/log/maillog)
...
Name service error for name=<IP-ADDRESS> type=A: Host found but no data record of requested type
...
Case C:Unplugged network cable from the old server, changed settings of the new
to match the old: hostname, IP address, myhostname etc.
Note that the old server has a valid MX record in its name server ! Now I get
/var/log/maillog):
...
status=bounced (mail for <...> loops back to myself)
...
First thing in the morning I will restore /etc/postfix/access with the original one, and
I will explicitly set the domain name into
mydestination= pireasnet.gr $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, $mydomain
Any ideas of what else should I do ?
Should I try to upgrade Postfix ? 'yum' did not found new version of Postfix.
Please advise.
Thanks in advance.
