Question Possible Network Configuration Problem

I'm trying to execute a .jar file that tests network connectivity with another network node. On the same network, from a windows box the .jar executes correctly. On the FC6 box I receive the error 'ERROR: Unknown local host: basil'. I'm executing a CERT test file that is known to run correctly on *nix machines.

basil is an alias for localhost. The single entry in my /etc/hosts file
::1 basil localhost.localdomain localhost

I recently installed Fedora Core 6. The configuration is pretty much out of the box. I have the firewall turned off (the box is on a secure network). Any hints are appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

It is being picky, I know, but the man page for hosts says

For each host a single line should be present with the following information:

IP_address canonical_hostname [aliases...]

So you could try the following in /etc/hosts:

::1 localhost.localdomain localhost basil

Thanks for the reply. I tried editing my hosts file, but still ...

Code:
$ java -jar c07-sip-r2.jar -sendto 192.168.1.1 -touri 5101232007@192.168.1.1 -teardown
ERROR: Unknown local host: basil
Any one else have a suggestion?

well turns out this was an issue w/ java not networking.

by default GNU's java: gij was installed, not Sun's java. after installing Sun's java all was ... better.
