sorry about that. I forgot to write the rest of the post. Anyway, I am trying to configure php with mysql, but the mysql is on a different server. This is the statement I was talking about
./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql What do I do with this if mySQL is on machine 140.254.37.133?

You can leave out --with--mysql=/usr/local/mysql altogether. PHP comes with the needed libraries to talk with MySql built in, so just use "--with--mysql" with no arguments when configuring php

From php ./configure --help:
Code:
--with-mysql[=DIR] Include MySQL support. DIR is the MySQL base directory.
If unspecified, the bundled MySQL library will be used.
