Can't find php config?

I am trying to recompile php in Mandrake 10 to include GD. All of the instructions I find say to use ./configure --with-gd, which would be great if I could find the configure script in any of the php folders. I also looked in the extensions source tree for gd configuration script and that doesn't exist either. Does anyone have any ideas? We are running Apache2 and php 4.3.4. Thanks

configure is part of a source tarball, not the installed software. you will not have it unless you are to rebuildf php from php-4.3.4.tar.bz2 (for example)
