pdftk-1.41 on RHL9 or RHEL3. Graphic mode problems (missing libXinerama.so.1)

Hi,
i'm trying to install pdftk-1.41 on my Linux machines (RedHat Linux 9 and RedHat Enterprise Linux 3). As suggested by pdftk site (http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/) I installed 3.4.2 version of gcc/gcj/licgcj.
To make this, I installed several component. Among them there is gtk2 which needs libXinerama.so.1.
At first i tried to install the gtk2 rpm using the command "rpm -Uvh --nodeps ...rpm".
Once installed 3.4.2 gcc/gcj version, i compiled and installed the pdftk-1.41 sources.
Now the pdftk component works fine but when i restart the machines i can't execute the graphic mode.
This problem is caused by the missing of libXinerama.so.1 which is a component of XFree86-devel package.
So i tried to install this package (installing also all the dependencies) and now
i can see the libXinerama.so.1 into my /usr/X11R6/lib/ folder.
But this didnt solve my problem. The graphic mode dont' run!
Can you give me some help???
i'm getting crazy.
Thank you very much

Francesco

you do know that RH9 has been unsupported for a long time .There have been no security updates to it in years
and i think that RHEL3 also hit it's End Of Life

it would be advised to call red hat and buy a license for the current RHEL 5.4
or install the free CentOS 5.4
