PDF confusion

Hello,
I have just recently installed MDK 9.0,and none of the pdf viewers,KGhostview,Ggv,Gv and Xpdf work properly.Subsequently I down loaded Adobe Acrobat pdf reader and it works just fine.
(1) KGhostview works but the printing is about a third of the size it should be,and is squashed into the top left hand corner of the page.

(2) Gv print's as per KGhostview (print command is lpr)

(3) GGv does not print, tried various print commands- /usr/bin/lpr,lpr,kprinter --stdin.

(4) Xpdf does not print.
Yes, I know I could just use Acrobat but it would be nice if I could get some of the other viewers working. One thing about Acrobat,if i use /usr/bin/acroread it prints with kprinter, and if I select netscape plugin viewer it prints with /usr/bin/lpr.
The manual I am trying to print is MDK 9.0 Quick Startup Guide.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

I've had the same frustrations lately. I'm running RH80, so it's not just Mandrake. It seems xpdf prints to a file by default. GGV doesn't print at all. What the hey? I haven't tried acroread yet, though I prefer it over GGV and xpdf, because I've read about problems using it under RH80. I'm sure I could get it to work, but dangit, GGV out to print for cryin' out loud!

Anybody know what's up with this?

You aren't the only one with the problem. I've been trying to get a stupid PDF printed for the last two days. I've tried everything under the sun and I can't for the life of me get it to work under Ghostview.

I tried downloading and installing Adobe Acrobat, but everytime I attempt to execute the program, I receive the following error message:

Code:
[root@astlefam01 bin]# ./acroread
Warning: charset "UTF-8" not supported, using "ISO8859-1".
Aborted
I have no idea what to do about that error, and no idea how to get Ghostview to print the document. The whole thing is driving me NUTS!

If you have Red Hat 8 go to www.gurulabs.com/downloads.html and you will find an rpm file to install Acrobat reader and the Acrobat web browser plug-in. I had the same issue with UTF-8 crap from the adobe download, but the Guru labs file works just fine!
Good Luck!

Thanks, I never would have found those in a million years. They both worked fine and I'm now able to set the default actions for PDF files to open with Adobe Acrobat Reader. I still can't create a launcher item in GNOME, but it works for existing files which is all I wanted it to do (i.e. double-clicking on a file in Home).

kittenz for that link. Not only did that solve my acrobat problem (the other PDF viewers just weren't cutting it), but they also had the solution to XMMS having no love for my mp3s.

I use an hp laserjet 1000. Since Xpdf did not print, I installed Acrobat reader and Acrobat plugin. Unfortunately, it STILL doesn't print.
Does anyone have any idea why?
-thanx
