patching wine

There's a certain Windows program I'm trying to run in wine that refuses to run. Finally found what may be a working solution, but I have no no idea how to implement it.

This patch http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=26958 apparently needs to be applied to wine. I get that I'll have to recompile wine, but I don't know how to apply that patch while doing so. Tried to RTFM but that directs me to the patch documentation and thats a little over my head, I'm sad to say (it directed me to http://www.gnu.org/software/hello/ma...20with%20patch )

I'm going to try a few other things before trying to patch wine, but what do I need to do to add the patch if it comes down to it?
And, will adding this patch affect other wine programs negatively?

Get the wine source, and the patch in the same directory. ls should show

wine-do-something.patch
wine-source-numbers/

cd into the source and run this line
Quote:
patch -Nnp1 -i ../your-patch-name-here.patch
It should talk back about applying hunks at various offsets. Use a recent version of wine (git). The bigger the offset, the worse a patch fits. Then compile the source

Yep. The opening line of interest usually begins
Quote:
diff -Naur directory.orig/ directory.altered/
Everything above that is junk, but patch has a good way of ignoring junk.
