Opening ZIP Filed Software in Mint 9

I need some info on how to open zip files in mint 9 from my downloads to my list of programs.

Which "location" "open" or "extract"?

Install unzip via your package manager. You may even have it all ready, try this command:
Code:
cd <wherever the zip file is>
unzip <name of file>
Does that work?

If you have it installed, you don't need to do anything more. As to the download locations, they should all be in your package manager.

When I double click the download, I get the options on top left of Open and Extract. Then there is Location, below is a list, with sizes in Bytes.

Okay, I used the address of the name and extracted, but I do not know to where, when I tried to open it, I found files including one for set up, pressing that, I found it opened opened in Bluefish.

I suggest going back a few steps. First, what SW are you trying to install? Did you check to see if it is available with the package manager?

If you are installing SW that comes in some kind of compressed format, you first have to extract it and then there will typically be instructions for what to do next.

The more common compression formats are gzip or bz2 so you may have to install "unzip" using your package manager.

Then, in a terminal: "sudo unzip filename", (replace "filename" with the name of your file.)
