Hi,

winrar is windows specific (hence the name). Try looking for unrar for rar files.

zip files: gunzip
bz2 files: bunzip2
tar files: tar

Hope this helps.

Winrar is a windows program. Search your package manager for Linux rar software such as the rar and unrar packages.

In windows, Winrar supports a number of compression formats, such as rar, zip, iso,gz,bz.
unfortunately, winrar is not available for linux.

I'll give some programs available for linux.
for rar - "unrar"
for zip - "ark" ...
for gz & bz - "tar"
..

If you like winrar very much and want to use it, then use wine to run the windows "winrar".

The actual problem was, unrar is not a GUI program.

use unrar command from your terminal.

It sounds to me like the archive manager has the ability to support rar files. If it's xarchiver then by installing rar and unrar you should be able to open rar files using a graphical interface.

You can't unrar a zip file, you unzip a zip file and unrar a rar file.
Code:
man unzip
Read the manual page for options to kow how to extract a file.

I see that the program "ark" also supports rar files. I'm sure there is a Gnome archiver program that does the same. It may need the rar and/or unrar to operate. These programs are usually a front-end for the actual archive commands.
