I can not seem to get cuda to install 11.1.1 when I run cuda-installer it says Failed to load required ncurses libraries. I have upgraded ncures to 6.2 and it still has this issue. Anyone know whats up with that?
Rumor has it the latest stable Nvidia driver with kernel 5.9 is not so stable. Many features are broken including cuda. I'm using version 450.80.02-1 and I lost the ability to roll the multiple desktop cube in KDE plasma with the scroll wheel.

EDIT: The more I think of it, this "may" be with all versions of Nvidia, it's a problem with the kernel.
Im running old stuff, I have slackware 14.2 with kernel 4.19~, nvidia driver 435.x. But when I run the cuda_11.1.whatever installer it says it cant load ncurses library which makes no sense since I have version 6.
I just wanted to play around with taking my hand at using XMR mining software on gpu. Now I did install cuda 10 with a slackbuild, but then when I go to compile the xmr mining software it says missing cuda_art or something. So I figured id get a full cuda installer.run file and isntall it but the ncurses thing is stopping me.
Here's a good article. Down at the bottom it shows how to circumvent your ncurses issue:

--ui=none
The installer uses an ncurses-based user interface if it is able to locate the correct ncurses library. Otherwise, it will fall back to a simple commandline user interface. This option disables the use of the ncurses library.
I am not installing a nvidia driver itself, all nvidia installers have worked fine for me. Slackware uses ncurses for its package tool and other installers so it should be functioning perfectly on this distro I would think.
Edit:
Unless this cuda thing is a all in one with a nvidia driver and cuda stuff.
Well... Documentation has nothing regarding ncurses. But I did notice one article where the person had to install ncurses-dev or libncurses5-dev, etc. something for development.

That article is about installing the nvidia driver, not cuda.
I think what Brains was saying is that the nvidia driver needs to be installed with that option before cuda is installed if you want to disable ncurses in cuda. I can't speak to what affect it will have on other packages.
Since installing the nvidia driver does involve compiling it could very well be that you need the dev packages for ncurses so that nvidia has the proper libraries for compiler support as well as cuda
