No my.config present

Hi,

I reinstalled mysql with
apt-get install mysql-server-5.0 mysql-client-5.0
apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client

I set password for root user and when run

mysql -u root -p

I see that /etc/mysql/my.cnf is missing

Which package is responsible to make it?

Try finding it by

find / -name my-medium.cnf -exec ls -l {} \;

or

find / -name my.cnf -exec ls -l {} \;

find / -name my.cnf -exec ls -l {} \; didn't find anything

weird i try dpkg --get-selections > install
then search for mysql-common in the file and the package is installed

Suppose i have to reinstall mysql-common ?

Did this return anything ? I am assuming you are running the commands as "root" user.
Code:
 find / -name my-medium.cnf -exec ls -l {} \;
I installed mysql using this link. You can also try the same.
Pls get back if you face any issues installing it from here.
