need some help with Cedega please

the transgame forums are a bit pathetic when it comes to traffic so i come to a much more powerful forum and hopefully to a place that might have some good answeres for me.

i just signed up for Cedega yesterday after getting my workstation fully working including installing the most current vid drivers from nvidia last week. i am running Debian (sarge) as my distro with the default 2.4.x kernel and KDE with kdm as my window desktop manager.

i have tested that my 3D drivers are working via the glxgears and got a FPS between 1700-1900 so that is a good indication that they are working as per the HOWTO from Cedega.

i have configured my CDRom to have 777 permissions, i have verified that my fstab does not have the uhide or something along that line it does not have anything other then the /dev and the /media for my CDRom.

the things that i have tried, and the issues i am running into are as follows:

1. point2play will not do anything. it does not read the CDrom, it does not install, nothing, just sits there on my desktop taking up space i could be better using.

2. i have verified both via the CLI and the home directory GUI button that the data is readable on my CDrom.

3. i have even rebooted my system just thinking like a windows guy.

4. installed the latest vs of Cedega via point2play that did nothing to help

5. downloaded both point2play and Cedega with the .deb extention and installed them via dpkg -i

6. the error i am getting from Cedega under the CLI is as follows://

Code:
ray@ssmadebian:~$ cedega /media/cdrom0/installer.exe
Your system requires the use of pthreads but the maximum system allowed stack size of 2052 kB may be too small for some ga
mes.
If you experience problems, try rerunning with "-use-pthreads no" which may help.

i have looked all over the transgame forums and found nothing to help out that i understand. also their search function does not work, at least not worth waisting my time for. the title of my thread asking for help starts with 'debian', yet when i run a search for debain (and there are loads of threads with debian in both the title and the posts and that is the default search areas) i get a zero response. in other words the transgame forums do not see any finds for the search debian...

waist of time that is.

i come to the community with the most know in the linux world and beg for help.

well few more things have happend.

1. found and installed some form of the glibc 2.2 or an other. it was not called that, but after an apt-get update and apt-cache search glibc i found something close enough to it in a list and installed that.

2. i was able to get cedega -use-pthreads no /media/cdrom0/installer.exe to start and work as user, but could not umount (even though fstab has user as someone with controll over the cdrom and the cdrom is set to 777 permissions) i did have to change fstab and get the noauto out of the list for the cdrom

3. am successfully installing (on disk 3 atm) as root in the GUI. could not get it to run from pure CLI as root or user, but we shall see.

ill be a bit unhappy if i have to run the game as root user, but will be happy just to be able to run it.

Also it appears you don't have the Font package installed. Be sure you do that first, try it again and see what happens.

i did that via the point2play and it said i had the microsoft fonts installed.

i have a few more things to add:

Quote:
well finnaly got it to install (had to be root in the GUI to do it), but now it will not play.

the path it created for the desktop icon was as follows:

Code:
cedega -workdir"" "C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/WoW.exe"

i tried running both as root and as user nothing happens. i get the bouncing KDE gear icon then after a bit it just stops. no game, nothing.
edit to add:

i had to update my glibc to better then 2.2 after i did that i was able to get the game to install but i had to be root and in the GUI not the CLI and now i can not get it to run as either user or root. just sits there with the little gear thing and then poof gone. nothing starts, nothing in top, nothing in ps -ax just nothing.
