There's no such thing as an "ipod" music format. iPods play music in either mp3 or aac/mp4 formats (as well as a few others), with the aac files optionally including apple DRM protection.

For unprotected mp3 and aac files, just about any media player can handle them, as long as you have proper codec support for those formats installed. Note that, since these formats are patent-encumbered, most distros are unable to provide them automatically, but you're free to install them manually. A simple google search should give you pages on how to set up support for them.

Nothing legal is going to be able to give you playback on DRM-encumbered files. But there may be ways to strip the DRM or convert them to other formats. At the very least, the "burn to CD" with itunes on Windows, followed by re-ripping to another format, generally works.

The player that I have will handle what I have for files no problem, even songs that I purchase from iTunes, but I was just hoping to find a player that will do the same thing and has an equalizer built in. Sorry, I guess I didnt clarify my question.

Amarok has a built-in equalizer. Amarok -> Tools -> Equalizer

You can even load/save a bunch of "presets".

amarok is in the 'buntus repositories, just install it if you do not already have it.

Well, there are a lot of players available (though not all of them have equalizers). Just try them out until you find one that does what you want.

I personally use audacious, which is based on the old xmms and is structured like the classic winamp, with playlist and equalizer windows. It can even use classic winamp skins.

One thing that I notice with these two programs is that they do not seem to want to access songs across the network. I have most of my songs on a network server.
