I'm pretty stumped with this one. I have XP and Slack 10 dual booting on a machine here at Uni. MSN messenger on windows xp connects and works fine. Gaim, Kopete, and aMSN all try and connect to msn messengers service for a few minutes and then give up. It's either linux somehow blocking it , but I have no firewall running to my knowledge, or all of those programs using a different host and port to connect than in windows. Any ideas guys?
Yep to SSL. amsn is latest, gaim is the dropline 2.8 version (1.0.0 i think) I found that if i selected "connect via http method" in amsn it will connect, however doing that in gaim (still using the 1843 port) it connects but then instantly errors saying it cannot write to msn server, and then closes.
I am using gaim 1.0.3 with all the latest libraries installed, but I get the same thing when trying to use the HTTP method, perhaps there is something wrong with GAIM or the way that the HTTP Method operates. I have never had a problem just sticking to the regular connection type on port 1863 (except for when I am behind the firewall at work). I have tried various different methods of trying to connect via HTTP, but didn't have any luck. I needed it to get out from behind a firewall.
The same thing happens for me at work, it probably has something to do with the way that the folks at GAIM implement that HTTP protocol. Microsoft and other IM creators have been known to change things so that other applications using their protocols no longer function correctly.
I am sure that there will be a new GAIM release soon that would probably address it. I bet it's Microsoft's fault.
