MPlayer Problem playing DVD's

I have all codecs downloaded, and installed from http://www.mplayerhq.hu. They are working. I am having a problem with DVD's. When i put a dvd in it locks MPlayer up with a black screen, and a few times i get "error opening VMG file". Anyone seen this error, or know what it could be? Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Hello,

sometimes the DVD's have an error, although a DVD-Player has no problems with the DVD.
Another possibility is a copy protection or the DVD is encrypted. Have you libdecss installed?

mplayer has trouble reading a lot of DVD menus in my experience, even with libdecss installed.

I recommend using Ogle to watch DVD's.
If playback still sucks, you might have to enable DMA (assuming that hdc is your DVD drive):

First verify that DMA is turned off:
$ sudo hdparm /dev/hdc

If using_dma = 0 (off), then enable DMA:
$ sudo hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc

To enable DMA at bootup, open /etc/hdparm.conf and add the following lines to the end of the file:
Code:
        /dev/hdc {
       dma = on
       }

Problem solved. Seems my default for mplayer is usr/local/lib/win32. The RPM package created usr/local/lib/codecs as the default,and put libdecss there. That codec was in the wrong path. I moved it to win32, and worked perfectly. Thanks for everyone's input! Much appreciated.
