mplayer GTK issues

When i try to configure the mplayer gui is returns:

Checking for gtk version ...
Error: the GUI requires GTK (which was not found)

Check "configure.log" if you do not understand why it failed.
GTK is installed, how do I tell the config file where to look for it, and what file am I telling it to look for.

./configure --help or something similiar will give you most likely a list of common commands for configuring.

Also, most likely GTK just isn't in your users PATH. You could just add the path to your .bashrc in your home directory or in your /etc/profile or global configuration file for your users.

you may well have gtk2 installed, which is not the same as gtk.
